Me­dia con­fer­ence at uni

Stir­ling Uni­ver­sity has been host­ing a ma­jor me­dia and com­mu­ni­ca­tions con­fer­ence this week.

The Me­dia, Com­mu­ni­ca­tion and Cul­tural Stud­ies As­so­ci­a­tion (MeCCSA) Con­fer­ence 2019 took place at the Stir­ling Court Ho­tel from Jan­uary 9 -11 with the theme ‘Con­ti­nu­ity and Change – Me­dia, Com­mu­ni­ca­tions and Pol­i­tics’.

MeCCSA aims to dis­cuss the role of me­dia and com­mu­ni­ca­tions in af­fect­ing con­ti­nu­ity and po­lit­i­cal change, and will fea­ture dis­cus­sions with prom­i­nent aca­demics, ex­perts and prac­ti­tion­ers.

Con­fer­ence top­ics in­cluded ‘me­dia ac­tivism and civic en­gage­ment’,‘me­dia in de­volved po­lit­i­cal con­texts’and‘cul­tural his­to­ries of film, me­dia and com­mu­ni­ca­tions ed­u­ca­tion’.

The event co­in­cided with the 20th an­niver­sary of the Scot­tish Par­lia­ment and on Tues­day, del­e­gates were wel­comed to a re­cep­tion at par­lia­ment by Joan McAlpine MSP and Cul­ture Sec­re­tary Fiona Hys­lop.

Dr Alenka Je­len-Sanchez, deputy head of the Di­vi­sion of Com­mu­ni­ca­tions, Me­dia and Cul­ture, said:“We al­ways look for­ward to bring­ing to­gether aca­demics, prac­ti­tion­ers and pro­fes­sion­als to ques­tion the role of tra­di­tional and dig­i­tal me­dia and com­mu­ni­ca­tions in main­tain­ing con­ti­nu­ity and ad­vo­cat­ing for po­lit­i­cal change.”
