Probe after axe thugs attack man in street

A man was taken to hospital with a head injury after being attacked by three males armed with axes in Cowie.

The 42-year-old was set upon by three thugs, with residents claiming an axe was used in the incident.

A Police Scotland spokespers­on said:“Police in Forth Valley are investigat­ing following a serious assault in Stirling.

“The incident happened around 9.30pm on Tuesday in Hilton.

“A 42-year-old man was attacked in street by three males and sustained injuries to his head. He was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital where he continues to be treated.”

Some residents noted a large police presence in the area after three males were allegedly“running about with axes”.

Villagers took to social media to share their concerns.

One Facebook user said: “It’s a terrible day when a parent is scared to let their wean out to play. I started letting my son go to school by himself on Monday on his bike but it came to a halt after that carry on last night (Tuesday).”

War councillor, Alasdair MacPherson said:“I learned about this incident on social media and I share the concerns of the community.

“I urge police to provide adequate resources to deal with it as all people want to do is live in peace and quiet.”

Police are now appealing for informatio­n to trace the three men. Anyone with any informatio­n is asked to contact the police by calling 101 and quoting the reference number 4340 of June 11.

Tuesday evening’s serious assault is the second to have taken place in the village this month.

We reported how an 11-year-old boy was seriously injured after being assaulted at Cowie skate park on Tuesday, June 4, at around 5.30pm.

The youngster was left nursing a suspected shattered cheekbone following the assault. Police inquiries are also continuing into this incident.
