DOUNE GALA WEEKEND

This year’s gala weekend takes place from June 21-23 and the theme is “Into the Future”. It begins on Friday, June 21 with “It’s a Hoe Doune” ceilidh from 7.3011pm in the Moray Park Marquee. This is for over 18s only and the tickets are already on sale from Doune Library and The Red Lion, priced £5. The Red Lion will be hosting a beer tent. On Saturday, June 22, Gala Day is from 12.30-5pm. As part of the event children and adults are welcome to enter a fancy dress competitio­n. Entrants should gather in Graham Street for judging at 12.30pm. At 1pm the parade will meet with the Doune Pipe Band at the Cross , heading towards Moray Park, led by the Royal Party , made up of local children. After the official opening at 1.30pm, the Laird and the Queen will be announced followed by competitio­ns, live music, tea in the tent, barbecue, races, stalls and fun until 5pm. Stall hire is available from Doune Library. In the evening, entertainm­ent is planned in local pubs. The miniature garden competitio­n (five and over) and dragonfly colouring competitio­n (under fives) will also be judged in the Marquee. Entries must be in by 9.30am on Saturday, June 22. Trays for miniature gardens and templates for dragonflie­s are available from committee or Doune Library. On Sunday, June 23 the annual Duck Race takes place when ducks will race along the river. The committee also welcome help leading up to the event, and over the course of the weekend.
