Effort to accelerate road safety issues
Blair Drummond and Strathyre on safety agenda
Stirling Tory politicians recently met with transport officials to discuss road safety issues in the area.
Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Dean Lockhart and Trossachs and Teith councillor Jeremy McDonald attended a meeting with Transport Scotland and area police officers to discuss safety on the A84, A85 and A82 roads.
They were updated on a number of developments including a potential pedestrian crossing at Strathyre.
The politicians also proposed solutions to ongoing concerns at the A84 junction near to Blair Drummond Safari Park, as well as the need to ensure road signs are maintained across rural Stirling.
Transport Scotland officials also reaffirmed that a proposed roundabout at Blair Drummond, suggested in a report by BEAR Scotland earlier this year, is not a priority.
Other issues discussed included the introduction of barriers at the Glenogle Pass, potential consultations to introduce clearways on the A84 and A85, as well as more speed enforcement measures at Lochearnhead.
Councillor McDonald said: “I called this meeting to address some safety issues and I thank Transport Scotland and Police Scotland for collaborating in such a constructive and positive meeting. There are some very exciting developments coming up which will benefit all road users.”
Mr Lockhart commented: “I welcome many of these announcements which are the culmination of much hard work on behalf of local communities over the course of many years.
“Stirling’s main rural roads are critical arteries for the region and I will continue to work with Transport Scotland to find solutions and implement measures which will deliver maximum possible safety for road users.
“I remain very disappointed that there has not been sufficient progress on a solution to the Blair Drummond and reiterate my call for a permanent solution.”
