Court grants warrant for thief’s arrest

- COURT REPORTER

A warrant for the arrest of a Fallin thief was granted after he failed to turn up at court on Wednesday.

Ryan Charles Dawson, or McNeil, of King Street was due to appear at Stirling Sheriff Court that day on a variety of charges.

He had previously pleaded guilty to charges, on indictment, of stealing a set of house keys and a watch at an address in Coxithill Road, Stirling, and breaking into a house occupied by Ann Elizabeth Adams in Johnston Avenue, also Stirling, and stealing money and a quantity of medication.

The crimes took place on November 23 last year when McNeil was on bail on two separate matters.

Twenty-five-yearold McNeil had further admitted a charges on summary complaint of stealing a bicycle at Coxithill Road on the same date while on bail and being found at an address in Benview, Bannockburn, on July 6, 2018, in suspicious circumstances while on bail.

McNeil’s lawyer Frazer McCready told Sheriff Simon Collins on Wednesday he did not know why his client had not turned up at court.

He added: “He was fully committed on September 26 and the court was persuaded to give him bail with a curfew. He spoke to a colleague on Friday and an application was made to change the curfew address.

“That was the last I heard from him.”

The solicitor said McNeil had previously been given a Drug Treatment and Testing Order, subject to reviews, on the indictment matter – involving theft of the house keys and watch and break-in involving the theft of cash and medication. However, at the last review on September 11 the sheriff “took the view that the DTTO wasn’t working because he breached the order and deferred sentence for today”.

Mr McCready said McNeil may have thought the matter was calling at 2pm when DTTOs are dealt with.

Sheriff Collins, however, pointed out that McNeil had not attended court when the indictment matter called the previous day and granted a warrant for his arrest in respect of all the matters against him.
