Kerr: Stirling needs a local champion

-

Conservative candidate for Stirling Stephen Kerr said people he speaks to in the constituency had firm views of both Brexit and the prospect of another independence referendum

He explained that since he was elected as MP for Stirling in 2017, he had used most weekends to“knock on doors and speak to my constituents”.“During this election I get to do this every day and speak to people across the whole of Stirling constituency,”he added.“What is coming across clearly already is that people want Brexit done and they want to avoid another divisive referendum on independence.

“We need to move on from both issues and get back to concentrating on education, health, crime, climate change and jobs. Whether we voted to remain or to leave most people I speak to think we should respect a democratic decision and leave, but do so with a deal and we have a good one on the table.”

Mr Kerr said First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was desperate to have a referendum on independence in 2020.

“This would be just as divisive as it was before, probably worse,”added the Tory candidate.“The SNP is only really interested in this and will push it above any other issues although (their supporters) do not want to mention it in their leaflets or on the doorstep. I am the only candidate that stands rock solid against another independence referendum and the only one that can beat the SNP.

“Stirling needs a strong , hardworking, local champion, as I have been, who will work with communities on issues such as the

Viewforth Link road, something that would be an environmental disaster for Stirling pushed on us by the SNP, and opposing the huge Airthrey Kerse and Park of Keir developments.”
