Politics put aside for one day
Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford was among those who laid a wreath in honour of the city’s war dead at the Cenotaph in Corn Exchange Road on Sunday.
He said:“With everything going on at the moment, Remembrance Day this year was a welcome and sobering opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice made by so many, securing the generations that have come after them.
“The Stirling area has a special and proud history with the military forces, and it is always an honour to lay a wreath as the MSP for the constituency to mark the individuals who have given so much to those of us lucky to be here today.”
Stirling’s MP would also normally lay a wreath at the city cenotaph but with the General Election campaign underway, there is currently no holder of that position.
Conservative candidate for the Stirling constituency Stephen Kerr, MP from June, 2017, until Parliament was dissolved on Wednesday, attended the Stirling and Bridge of Allan remembrance services on Sunday.
He said the Scottish Conservatives in Stirling had halted General Election campaigning for Remembrance Sunday.
Mr Kerr said:“Both services I attended were incredibly moving and remind us of the sacrifice made by so many during conflicts. Whether serving personal or civilians caught up in the horror of war it is our duty to ensure they are never forgotten.
“On such a special day I believe it would have been wholly inappropriate to carry out any campaigning. Some things are far more important.”
