A two-day heritage event to mark the 90th anniversary of Alva’s Cochrane Hall takes place on November 29 and 30.

It was in 1929 that the Lord Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire, Walter J F Erskine, 12th Earl of Mar, officially opened the hall, in West Stirling Street.

And it will be his contemporary counterpart, Lord Lieutenant Johnny Stewart, who will open the heritage day event, organised by Alva Development Trust.

More than 20 community organisations have been invited to showcase their history using spoken word, music or drama.Â

Among them will be Alva Games, Coop, guides, Scouts, Cochrane Foundation, community council and churches. Some representatives are going to be dressed in 1929 costume.

Villagers are invited to come along to find out about their past, present and future. Ian Anderson, who is renowned for his knowledge of old Alva, will be there with a display of photos, etc.

ADT will exhibit the history of the Cochrane Hall, which was gifted to the people of Alva in 1929 via a donation by the Cochrane brothers.

Entry to this day is free and open to all. Refreshments and home baking will be available during the heritage day which takes place between 11am and 4pm.

On November 30 the hall will host a St Andrew’s Day ceilidh from 7.30pm until late, with music from the Jack Delaney Band. Tickets, costing £15 each, include buffet, are available by email from alvadevelopmenttrust@gmail. com or the Cochrane Hall between 10am and 1pm Saturday, November 2.
