MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11

Caley Marts had forward 309 store cattle and suckled calves and 1062 store lambs, breeding and feeding ewes at their fortnightl­y sale.

Bullocks sold to 265p per kg for Limousins from J and J MacInnes, Culbhuirg, Isle of Iona and to £1120 for Limousins from AL and J Blair, East Kerse, Lochwinnoc­h.

Heifers sold to 288p per kg for a Limousin from B Harper, Greenwells and to £1080 for the same beast.

All classes of cattle met the dearest trade of the back-end sales, selling to the largest ringside of buyers this season.

East Kerse (twice); £1070 Midton; £1040 Haddocksto­n. Bullocks per kg - 263p Culbhuirg (Isle of Iona); 256p Greenwells and Highflat; 248p Greenwells; 245p Culbhuirg (Iona).

Heifers per head - £1040 and £990 East Kerse; £890 Haddocksto­n and Walton (Kinloch); £880 Merslaugh and Braeside. Heifers per kg - 241p Greenwells; 222p Culbhuirg (Iona); 219p and 214p Redhall.

Also forward were 1062 store lambs, breeding and feeding ewes and tups at their weekly sale. All classes of lambs again dearer on the week. Ewes again sold very well.

Top price of the day went to W Paterson and Son, South Ailey, Helensburg­h for cross ewes at £80. Lambs sold to £78.50 from DL Young, Finmont, Kinglassie for Texel Lambs.

Caley Marts sold 1999 prime lambs, ewes and tups.

A good show of lambs forward for numbers and quality, 1553 saw the best trade of the season so far, with SQQ averaging 191.3p per kg and the overall average being 186p (+13p on the week or +24.6p on the year) with the average per head of £83.48 being +£12.01 on the year.

Top price of the day went to Doune Farms, West Lundie for a 54kg Beltex at £103. Top price per kg went to K Graham, Easterton for a 43kg Beltex at 228p per kg.

Also forward were 447 caet ewes and tups. All classes again met an increased trade on the week.

Heavy ewes averaged £87.34 selling to £170 for an outstandin­g Beltex ewe from Robert Messenger, Ayton, Abernethy. Light ewes averaged £57.47 selling to £78 for Cheviots from W Thomson, Greenland, Dumbarton.
