NETBALL

The girls and teachers have been busy playing, coaching and umpiring netball the past few weeks.

Since the start of term, there have been two training nights at the school - Mondays for the S1 and S2 girls and Tuesday for the S3-S6 age group. The number of girls coming along each week has been amazing; the busiest night so far was a staggering 56 girls.

Five teams were entered in the Scottish Cup and since September 23, the girls have played 16 matches in the preliminary regional rounds.

The S1 team have had a great start to their high school games, many of them playing on a full-sized court for the first time. They played three matches, winning games against Lomond School and Hermitage Academy and losing to Clydebank High School.

The S2 team have been playing brilliantly especially in their shooting positions. They played four and won four - 108 goals were scored by the Balfron shooters Charis Bell and Amy Elder both receiving Player of the Match status at different games.

The S3 girls played four and won three, the winning margin being 16, 22 and 25 goals. In a well fought game against the Glasgow Gaelic School, going into the final quarter both teams were on 17 goals but GGS went on to win 24-20 to GGS.

There are two Open teams made up of S4-6 girls. The B team played three and lost only one against a strong Hermitage Academy. The A team played three and won one against Park Mains School.

The senior girls as ever show great commitment to the school netball and are a real inspiration to the younger teams, Many S3 and senior girls also come along to the junior nights and help train the young ones which is a real help to Miss Vickers and Mrs McLay who run the school teams.

All five teams have progressed to the next round, The S1 and both Open teams will play in the Silver category and both the S2 and S3 teams will be in the competitive Gold group.
