Bands showcase original music
Stirling bands The Big Up and The Bell Jar will support headliners, Falkirk’s The Media Whores, at a gig in the city later this month.
The gig takes place at Mediterranea in Viewfield Place on Friday, November 29.
The Big Up will open proceedings followed by The Bell Jar, who formed in 2016.
The Media Whores manager Ally Gemmell said: “We felt there is not much going on in terms of original rock music from Stirling.
“Stirling has certainly seen big headline acts like Runrig and The Proclaimers over the years – and Queen at Stirling University in the 1970s and most notably The Beatles at Bridge of Allan in 1964.
“Punk bands played the Macrobert back in the day, when it was part of the touring circuit, but we don’t see much live music at the university now.
“Notable bands like The Cocteau Twins and Arab Strap have come out of Falkirk, but in terms of Stirling there aren’t any breakthrough musical acts I can think of.
“So, we wanted to showcase original music from Stirling with The Big Up and The Bell Jar.
“We want to keep original music alive.
That’s what we are aiming for with the Stirling
November 29 gig.”
Punk rockers The Media Whores recently celebrated their 10th anniversary with retrospective compilation ‘A Decade of Defiance.’
They are currently working on a fourth studio album to follow ‘Dangerous Minds’ which was released in 2016 and made it on to the Mercury Prize long list.
They are set to play Broadcast in Glasgow this Sunday, November 17, supporting Brix Smith and the Extricated who feature four former members of iconic post-punk band The Fall.
Tickets for the Mediterranea event – doors open at 7.30pm – are £5 and are available at the entrance on the night.
