City Park to host shindig in big top

Award winning act to play

- ALASTIAR MCNEILL

A summer shindig is planned for Stirling as traditional Scots band Skipinnish headline a show at City Park on Saturday, August 22.

Skipinnish started from humble beginnings performing in pubs, clubs and village halls in 1999 but now sell-out shows across Scotland’s most prestigious venues.

They have scored chart hits and their ever-growing home and international fan base are to flock to Stirling for their performance at the city park, better known as Falleninch Field.

They were Scots Trad Live Act of the Year 2017 and will be joined by Big Country, Eddi Reader and up-and-coming band from Stornoway Peat and Diesel for the Stirling show.

Entitled ‘Under Canvas’, the event will be held in a big top. There will also be a dedicated camping area for those fans who wish to make a weekend of it on the Friday and Saturday nights.

Skipinnish has created a trademark mix of selfpenned Celtic songs and melodies including classic anthems such as ‘Walking on the Waves’, ‘The Island’, ‘Alive’, and ‘Western Ocean’.

Skipinnish co-founder Angus MacPhail said of the Stirling event: “This will be the biggest Skipinnish gig yet and we are very, very excited.

“The prospect of performing under the majesty of Stirling Castle, to the biggest gathering ever of our amazing fans, is incredible.

“The last few years have felt like we are living in a dream, with more fans and bigger gigs in more exciting venues than we ever could have imagined.

“Stirling on August 22, 2020, will be the highpoint of our musical voyage so far. We cannot wait!”

‘Steer By The Stars’, the band’s eighth album, builds on familiar Skipinnish themes of ocean, Hebridean landscapes, love, hope, mortality, friendship and the pull of home.

It was released earlier this year reaching number four in the UK download chart.

Concert promoter LCC Live, which hosted Runrig’s ‘The Last Dance’ at City Park in 2018 is organising the Stirling show.

Event manager Carlie Davidson said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing Skipinnish and their special guests to Stirling’s City Park for a special afternoon and evening of live music in the big top. Skipinnish’s live performances are always out of this world, and we know that those attending will have a great night.”

Tickets for the event – as well as camping tickets for the Friday and Saturday nights – go on sale this Friday, November 22, at 9am from Ticketline (www. ticketline.co.uk, 0844 888 9991).
