Drinks donation for Street Pastors

-

Stirling Street Pastors received a donation from store giants Morrisons recently.

The Springkerse Industrial Estatebased supermarket provided items to the charity to use when their volunteers are out on patrol on Friday and Saturday nights.

Best known for handing out flip flops, Stirling Street Pastors also distribute personal safety equipment and offer emotional care and physical help to hundreds of people using the city centre every month. They also provide water and hot drinks to people on the streets at night.

Morag Hendry, co-ordinator of Stirling Street Pastors, said: “We gave out 465 hot drinks and bottles of water to people we met at night last year, so the donation of water, tea and coffee from Morrisons is greatly appreciated.

“Those who receive the drinks often begin to talk about what’s on their mind or things they are troubled about and this gives our team members the opportunity to care, listen and help as appropriate.”

Stirling Street Pastors are trained volunteers from local churches and are currently recruiting for new members to join the team. Team members commit to undertake training and to go out on patrol once every four weeks.

There is an opportunity to find out more about Street Pastors at two upcoming information events which are open to all: Sunday, November 24 from 2-3.30pm at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church Hall, Leny Road, Callander and Monday, November 25 from 7.30-9pm at The Well, Upper Craigs, Stirling.

Further information is also available by emailing stirling@streetpastors.org. uk.
