For many years now, Stirling High School’s Eco Club have organised a charity sponsored walk for all first year pupils. The walk takes them into the local community and the whole procession of young people, many in fancy dress, is quite a sight to see. It is a great fun and well supported by staff, young people, parents and carers alike. As well as raising money, the walk also raises the awareness for a chosen charity - this year HomeStart Stirling.

Home-Start Stirling offers friendly, informal support by matching families with a suitable volunteer who will visit them in their own home. Home-Start Stirling can help any family who has at least one child under the age of five years, and are experiencing some kind of stress and/or crisis. Home-Start supports families who live across the Stirling local authority area.

Rachel Keenan, manager at HomeStart, visited the school to thank everyone involved and told us how much the fund raising efforts had been appreciated. Mr Cassidy, head teacher, and Mrs Togneri, senior technician and Eco Club leader, along with representatives from each first year classes involved in the walk as well as senior helpers presented a cheque for £1115.25 to Rachel.

Mr Cassidy said: “We are all very proud of the efforts of our S1 pupils to raise such a fantastic amount for a worthy local charity.”
