STIRLING UNIVERSITY ....................................................... 1 EAST STIRLINGSHIRE ......................................................... 3

Two goals by former Stirling Albion favourite Peter MacDonald dented Stirling University’s hopes of a win on Sunday at Forthbank.

The veteran’s goals see the Shire move up to third in the Lowland League after their victory.

Despite the defeat, University boss Chris Geddes was upbeat about his side’s performance,

“I think we more than matched a team who are up at the top of the league challenging for the title,” said Geddes.

“It’s disappointing to lose but we have still seen a lot of positives.”

He added: “The last five or six weeks we’ve been on a tough run - we’ve played Kelty twice, Bonnyrigg Rose twice, BSC Glasgow, East Kilbride and East Stirlingshire. I’ll judge my players on the next six weeks, where we play lots of teams around us in the league.”

The first half was one of few chances, but it was Shire who took the lead after 22 minutes. A lomg ball from keeper Jamie Barclay’s caused problems in the University defence and it eventually fell to Sean Brown whose shot went under Andy Downie and into the net.

Stirling replied in first half stoppage time when Jason Jarvis’ ball into the box was parried by Barclay which bounced off defender Eddie Malone and into the net.

However, five minutes into the second half, Shire were back in front thanks to a goal from MacDonald. Jordan Tapping, who looked suspiciously offside, chested the ball into the path of MacDonald, who did well to scoop the ball over Downie.

On 75 minutes, Shire completed the scoring after MacDonald headed home from a corner post was met by MacDonald and he headed home to complete the scoring.

The students travel to Gretna 2008 on Saturday/
