Stirling SQA stars are recognised
A Stirling school pupil who supported his classmates has been highly commended at this year’s Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) Star Awards.
Ciaran Shearer(18) who is now a unviversity student, was highly commended in the School Candidate of the Year category.
Ciaran’s positive attitude and his support for other pupils while he attended St Modan’s High School saw him grow in confidence and become a valued and respected member of the school community.
Also highly commends was a Stirling Council employee who has helped hundreds of colleagues access learning opportunities.
Wendy Croal was said to be a highly valued member of the team in Stirling Council’s SQA Assessment Centre, where her dedication to helping staff achieve qualifications led to her colleagues nominating her in the SQA Champion category.
The SQA Star Awards recognise the achievements of individuals working towards SQA qualifications as well as the schools, colleges, training providers and employers who help to deliver SQA qualifications — that enable learners to achieve their ambitions.
Ciaran and Wendy were joined by other finalists from across the country and further afield at a ceremony at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, hosted by TV personality and entrepreneur Carole Smillie.
Education Secretary John Swinney said:“All those receiving awards and commendation have shown an outstanding drive and devotion to learning in their chosen field.
“My congratulations to the winners and finalists for their achievements.’’
