Burn remain in promotion hunt

BANNOCKBURN ................................. 24 GLENROTHES 2NDS ............................. 3

Bannockburn had their forwards to thank as they recorded their fifth consecutive league victory at home to old friends Glenrothes 2s.

The game was played in torrid conditions and saw Burn come out on top in a scrappy, ball-in-hand affair.

Despite two first-half yellow cards for Bannockburn, Glenrothes looked unable to score – a testament to the effort of the Burn defence – until knocking over a penalty just shy of the break.

The home side came out of the traps in the second half with intensity and focus, following a well-drilled game plan. No 8 Jimmy Samuel picked up from a five-metre scrum and ran, countering two Glenrothes tackles before going over for the first try of the day.

Samuel went on to grab a second after good work from the Bannockburn forwards saw them push the visiting forwards over their own goal line in the corner.

Bannockburn twisted the screw, their third try coming from another five-metre scrum. Tony Vines was the man to get the ball over the line after some admirable defence from the Glenrothes team.

With the last play of the game, Mark

Hunter racked up a score from yet another five-metre scrum earned by his fellow forwards’domination of the Glenrothes pack.

The win keeps Bannockburn in contention for promotion in Tennent’s Caledonia Midlands League Division 3.

Their last league game of the year is at home tomorrow (Saturday) against Dundee Morgan. The club will also host its Christmas Jumper Party and quiz night afterwards – all welcome
