Town urged to boost foodbank

-

Dunblane residents are being asked to come together this Friday to support the big Christmas push for foodbank donations for Startup Stirling.

Now in its 10th year, the traditional Friday-before-Christmas event seeks to ensure the foodbank’s shelves are full and overflowing for the tough month of January, when donations often drop and demand spikes as people suffer from the end of seasonal employment, paying bigger bills and cold-weather utility bills.

Once again, the town’s Boys’Brigade company is organising the collection. Non-perishable foodstuffs, toiletries, household cleaning supplies, etc can be dropped at Dunblane Cathedral Hall between 4.30pm and 7pm on Friday, December 20.

Boys will be on hand to sort and re-pack the donations and deliver these to the depot of foodbank Start Up Stirling.

The BBs will also be happy to receive any donation from the foodbank’s‘reverse Advent calendar’scheme.

BB captain, Fraser Boyd said:“It was 2010 when we first were asked to do an emergency appeal to match demand at the Alloa foodbank so this is now our 10th big Christmas collection. While we’re delighted to help, we’re not celebrating any big numbers as it should still shock us that foodbanks are required in 2019.

“This big public appeal does make a huge difference every year, though, and I would warmly encourage the people of Dunblane to clear the shelves of our local supermarkets and make sure that the area’s most vulnerable families are able to be supported for many weeks to come.”
