THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12

Caley Marts sold 222 cattle comprising of 93 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls as well as 107 OTM cattle and 22 young calves and stirks.

With a great ringside of buyers, having more than 41 active accounts throughout, many more could have been sold to sellers’ advantage and all types are required on a weekly basis.

Prime heifers sold to 248p pkg for a Limousin from A Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie purchased by G Kirk and Son, Butcher, Denny and to £1512 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodl­ees, Canonbie purchased by HA Black and Son, Butcher, Stirling.

Prime bullocks sold to 240p pkg for a Limousin from D Dickinson, purchased by T Johnston, Butcher, Falkirk and to £1462 for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn again purchased by T Johnston.

Bulls sold to 215p pkg for an outstandin­g Charolais from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuth­ill, Muthill and to £1464 from B McIntosh, Drumflower, Stranraer.

Cast males sold to 165ppkg for a Limousin Bullock from R Clarkson, Whiteside, Slamannan. Dairy cows averaged 94p pkg selling to 108p from W and M Wylie, Broompark, West Lothian and to £730 from J Brown and Son, East Gartmillan, Airdrie.

Also forward were 22 young calves and stirks at the fortnighly sale. The sale topped at £180 for a British Blue Bull Calf from J Brisbane and Son, Gartclush, Bannockbur­n.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 16

Caley Marts had forward 28 store cattle and 162 store lambs and feeding ewes at their final store sale of 2019.

Bullocks sold to £890 for a Simmental from J Brisbane and Son, Gartclush, Stirling. Bulls sold to 204p pkg for a Simmental from G McLaren, Blaircessn­ock, Port of Menteith.

Store lambs sold to £72 for a pen of Texels from M Ralston, Rhoin, Campbeltow­n.

Other leading prices: Suffolk - £62 Meikle Camoquhill (twice); Mule £60 Rhoin; Texel - £60 Alpin Cottage; Blackface - £46 Ballymeana­ch (Mull).

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17

Caley Marts sold 2105 prime lambs, ewes and tups.

All lambs keenly bid for especially 39.1kg-52kg which averaged 201p pkg for 1225 sold. Overall average for 1522 sold was 196.5p (+13p on the week) which resulted in the dearest trade of the season so far.

Top price of the day went to J Guthrie,

Cuiltburn for a 50kg Beltex at £113. Top price per kg went to RA Campbell and Sons, Meikle Seggie for a pen of three Beltex X Lambs at 41.3kg fetching 235p pkg.

Also forward were 583 cast ewes and tups. A good show of ewes again met a great trade and a highlight of the sale was a tremendous run of ewes and rams from P J and C Wood, Knockhill, Strathkinn­es averaging £137.66 for 32 sold.

Heavy ewes averaged £98.78 selling to £173 for a pen of outstandin­g Texel ewes from PJ and C Wood. Light ewes averaged £61.75 selling to £79 for Cheviots from R and L Howatt, Kinnaird, Fife. Cast rams sold to £116 for Texels from PJ and C Wood.

Dairy bullocks (18) averaged 124.74p to 148.80p per kg for a 477kg BFX from Newpark, and £710 for a 477kg BFX from Newpark.

Heifers (44) averaged 194.20p to 211.00p per kg for a 365kg CHX from West Park, and to £1060 for a 528kg LimX from

Airthrey Kerse.

Young bulls (2) to £1010 for a LimX from Airthrey Kerse.
