LATEST NEWS FROM FORTHBANK BINOS BOSS HAS KEEPER CRISIS Club want signing by weekend

- DAVID OGILVIE

Stirling Albion manager Kevin Rutkiewicz is hoping to sign a goalkeeper ahead of tomorrow’s game against Edinburgh City at Forthbank.

First-choice shot-stopper Blair Currie suffered a muscle injury in last week’s 1-1 draw with Queen’s Park and had a scan this week. The club are still awaiting the full diagnosis but the former Clyde No.1 will certainly miss this weekend’s match against title-chasing City.

Cammy Binnie came on as a substitute at the National Stadium and is set to feature again this weekend.

He made four starts in the Betfred Cup and Caramel Wafer Cup in the early part of the season but hasn’t started a League 2 match since the 4-1 defeat at Peterhead last December.

The SPFL have emergency loan rules which should allow Stirling to bring in another goalkeeper as back-up for an initial seven-day period.

Ironically, tomorrow’s opponents Edinburgh City have also had goalkeeping problems – Calum Antell has been joined on the sidelines by on-loan Rangers custodian Aidan McAdams. Former Hibs keeper Joshua Rae was between the posts for City as a trialist last week as they beat Annan 2-0 at Galabank to stay just two points behind leaders Cove Rangers.

Rutkiewicz said: “We have a few irons in the fire so hopefully we can get something done before Saturday but it’s not always easy.

“Blair has had his scan and it definitely showed some damage so we need to wait for the full detail – he has been excellent for us so hopefully he’ll not be out for long.

“Cammy is still a young goalkeeper at 22 but has first-team experience and he did well when he came on last week.

“We need to get someone in though because we don’t want to risk not having another goalkeeper and something happening to Cammy.

“Edinburgh are a good side but I think we are going into the game in decent form as well. We’ve had one bad performance in the last 10 games and that was the defeat to Brechin but we showed a good response against Queen’s Park and it was disappointing only to draw after being 1-0 up.

“I know the league has tightened up at the bottom with Brechin winning the last couple of games but I believe we should be looking up the way. We have been fairly consistent for a spell of time now and a home game on Saturday gives us an opportunity – it’s important we make the most of it.

“We had a bounce game against Linlithgow at Little Kerse on Tuesday night, which was a good work-out. Lewis Hawke scored a hat-trick and Dom Docherty also netted a couple of goals. Gareth Rodger had 90 minutes after being out for a long time and David Wilson had game time after not being involved at the weekend.”

Left-back James Creaney is suspended for tomorrow’s game after his red card at Hampden and Jordan Lowdon is a long-term absentee. City won 1-0 when the sides met at Ainslie Park in August and it was 0-0 at Forthbank on the final day of last season.
