Tasty haul of awards for winning butchers
Two Stirling area butchers were celebrating after scooping awards at the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.
The winners were this week announced, crowning the world’s best savoury snacks.
Doune-basedTrossachs Pie & Pastry Company claimed a gold award for their tasty Scotch pie, meaning it was crowned the joint fourth best pie in the world
The family-run business also claimed a diamond award for their steak pies and a silver award for the sausage rolls.
A delighted David Stewart from the firm said:“We won a couple of awards last year as well, but we have done a bit better this year so we are absolutely delighted.”
Skinner of Kippen also bagged a top award, winning a silver award for their Scotch pie.
The awards bash was staged at the Westerwood hotel in Cumbernauld and was hosted by TV presenter Carol Smilie.
James Pirie & Son, of Newtyle, claimed the crown of World Scotch Pie Champion for the second time.
Over 75 professional pie makers lined up to deliver their perfect products into the hands of the judges in November.
Entries were judged in eleven categories with top prizes on offer for the best in category with offerings from football pies and savouries, macaroni pies, steak pies, sausage rolls, cold savouries, hot savouries, vegetarian savouries, haggis savouries, bridies and apple pies.
