Caley Marts sold 167 cattle comprising of 89 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, 63 OTM cattle and 15 calves.

Prime heifers reached 245p pkg for a Limousin from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw, Broxburn purchased by D Campbell and Son, Butcher, Callander and to £1520 for a Limousin from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuth­ill, Muthill purchased by HA Black and Sons, Butcher, Stirling.

Other leading prices: Heifers per kg - 238p and 232p Learielaw; 230p Easter Ochtermuth­ill, Moorfield (twice) and Shields; 228p Moorfield, Shields and Learielaw. Heifers per head - £1465 and £1460 Knockhouse; £1444 and £1440 Easter Ochtermuth­ill; £1438 Knockhouse.

Bullocks per kg - 228p Easter Ochtermuth­ill; 225p Learielaw; 222p Shields; 220p Faskine; 218p Moorfield. Bullocks per head - £1440 Learielaw; £1422 Easter Ochtermuth­ill; £1406 Learielaw; £1386 Knockhouse (twice); £1385 Chapel.

Beef OTMs averaged 123p pkg, selling to 153p pkg for a Limousin from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk, Stirling and to £1280 for a Limousin from the same home. Dairy Cows averaged 89p pkg, selling to 102p pkg from J Ralston and Son, Kilkivan, Campbeltow­n, and to £780 from Barr Farms, Meldrum, Blairdrumm­ond

OTM males sold to 122p pkg, or £1340 from AG Simpson, Parbroath, Cupar.

Dairy cows per kg - 100p Carneil; 99p Barbeth and Meldrum; 97p Hoodsyard and Meldrum; 95p Gibblaston, Wester Lochdrum and Wharlawhil­l. Dairy cows per head - £770 Wester Lochdrum and Gibblaston; £690 Carneil and Barbeth; £670 Hillend; £660 Meldrum and Hoodsyard; £650 High Cattadale.

Also forward were 15 beef bred calves. All calves were in demand and many more could have been sold to sellers’ advantage.

Top price of the day went to Rosneath Farms Ltd, Rosneath for a three month old British Blue Bull Calf at £290.

MONDAY, JANUARY 13

Caley Marts had forward 348 store cattle and 942 store sheep at their fortnightl­y sale.

All classes of store cattle met a much improved trade to that of December, selling to a large ringside of buyers.

Bullocks averaged 216p pkg selling to 276p for a pen of Limousins from GS Stewart, Wester Whin, Falkirk and to £1210 for a Limousin from D and L Graham, Mains of Burnbank, Blairdrumm­ond.

Heifers averaged 208p pkg selling to 234p for a pen of Limousins from ML Wilson, Baluskie, Barrhill and to £1140 for a Limousin from A and J Orr, Hill O’Harthill, Harthill.

Black and Whites averaged 158p pkg selling to 170p twice from R Watson, Thorngreen, Kinrossie and A Black, Norrieston, Thornhill and to £780 again from A Black, Norrieston, Thornhill.

Heifers per kg - 232p East Kerse; 231p and 230p Baluskie; 229p Mains of Burnbank; 227p Lammerview; 224p Auchenboth­ie and Hattrick.

Also forward were 942 store hoggets, ewes and tups. All classes of hoggets were the dearest trade of the season selling to a top of £95 for a pen of Texels from ML Wilson, Baluskie. Overall average for 926 hoggets sold was £70.10.
