Skipper keenfor returnto action

-

Stirling County kicks off 2020 tomorrow (Saturday) with a triple header at Bridgehaugh.

The Super6 side welcome Heriot’s Rugby at 4pm in FOSROC Super6 while earlier at 2pm, Ayr are the visitors for a Tennent’s National League Division 1 fixture against Stirling Wolves and Stirling Accies face Ayr/Millbrae in West Reserve League Division 1.

Last Saturday, the Wolves match at Boroughmuir was one of many sporting occasions hit by the weekend’s heavy rain.

But tomorrow, the Bridgehaugh squads are back in action with Super6 skipper Reyner Kennedy desperate to get back on the playing field.

“It’s been a long time but it’s been a good break for us,” said Reyner. “Results haven’t gone our way in the last few matches do it gave us a chance to re-group and assess where we are.

“The other good thing about the long break is that any niggles and strains should have eased and it means our coach Ben Cairns should have a full squad of players to choose from.”

County’s last Super6 game was back on December 21 when they went down 29-19 to tomorrow’s opponents Heriot’s Rugby, a result which, after Southern Knights beat Boroughmuir Bears last weekend, saw Stirling slump to the bottom of the table.

Reyner, however, fells the team are in a false position. “Apart from a couple of games, we could have won the rest. What’s happened is that when we’ve made an error, we’ve then made another right away and lost points.

“It’s something we’ve been looking at in the festive break and hopefully we’ll sort it.”

Elsewhere Bannockburn face a top of the table match at leaders Dunfermline 2nds in Tennent’s Caledonia Midlands League 3. The Bluebellwood outfit currently sit in second place on the same points as the Fifers - but having played a game more.

Strathendrick play their first West League 1 match since November 23 when they make the trip to Cambuslang.
