Six-hitters Bannockburn reach final

LESMAHAGOW ..................................... 0 BANNOCKBURN .................................... 6

Bannockburn progressed to the League Cup final after a convincing victory over Lesmahagow at Dalziel Park on Saturday.

Burn took the lead early into the first half after a great pass into the box found Ryan Weir who slotted it past the‘Gow keeper to make it 1-0.

Midway through the half they doubled their lead when Chris Ogilvie cut inside from his left flank looking to make a pass to his team mates but having no options he decided to shoot, leaving the keeper rooted to his spot and thus giving Bannockburn a two goal advantage.

Having spurned two goal advantages in their last two games they made no mistake in gifting their opponents a way back into the game. A third shortly before half time killed any hope of a comeback for Lesmahagow when Weir was clipped inside the box and Kenny

McLellan slotted home the resultant spot kick.

The second half was similar and a fourth came when Ryan Millar picked out Steven Knox unmarked in the box and he made no mistake in finding the back of the net.

Burn’s fifth came from Scott Taylor at a set piece leaving the keeper no chance from his header.

Bannockburn rounded off the scoring with another penalty kick. Declan Wood found new signing Jack Ogilvie who went one-on-one with the keeper and beat him with fast feet only for the keeper to haul him down afterwards for a stonewall penalty and red card. Usual spot kick taker McLellan was substituted by this point but Knox stood up and made it six.

In the final, they will face either Castlemilk Dynamo, Bridgewater or Drumchapel Ams. Venue and date still to be decided

Burn are back in league action on Saturday at home to Harestanes AFC.
