Ladies boosted by return of star Lucy

of this match will really have momentum.

“From that point of view, it’s great to have Lucy Murchie back available after her prelims and I am confident that with Sheena, Morgan McGuire, Rowan Niven, Pauline Douglas all in, we can keep our run going.”

Meanwhile the men’s first team suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of secondplaced Heriot Watt University that has seen them drop to fifth in the East Men’s Division 1.

Only No 1 Fergus Richards managed a victory and skipper Iain Logan bemoaned the cruelty of the fixture card.

“Heriot Watt are chasing the title and that is because of their strength throughout their order,” said Iain. “For us the big positive was the performance of Fergus Richards who once again underlined he is back at the top of his game with a fine win at the top of the order.”

In Division 2 the seconds face Linlithgow at Minewood tonight (Wednesday) with skipper Robin Bairner demanding a home victory that could launch a late promotion bid.

Robin said: “The match with

Linlithgow at home is one we are all looking forward to and particularly as they are just a point ahead of us and we are both handily placed in terms of joining the promotion race.

“That said we are also both looking over our shoulders at the bottom three with the table the tightest in the East League. From that point of view a home win is a must.”

In Division 3 the thirds will look to bounce back from an agonising 4-1 defeat at league leaders Grange 2 when they head to Linlithgow seconds tonight.

Skipper Bert Mitchell, who is set to return to the fray, said: “The team gave it absolutely everything against Grange and although we lost 4-1 two of these defeats were five-setters, so there was nothing in it.

“Now we have the chance to get back to winning ways at Linlithgow. We now know that our twin targets are to try and claim promotion and finish as high as we can which would mean second place.”

The fourths have a week off after losing in the semi-final of the McLaren Cup in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Dunblane 1sts
