Summer dates at castle and school for orchestra
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra will play at Stirling Castle this July as part of a tour of Scotland.
It will feature exceptional soloists, including newly-appointed principal conductor Maxim Emelyanychev.
Packed with music ranging from baroque to contemporary, the SCO will bring some of the finest music ever written to the castle on Thursday, July 23.
Since 1979 the SCO have been bringing high quality music to communities throughout Scotland.
Talking about the orchestra’s summer tour, SCO sub-principal bass, Adrian Bornet commented: “This is one of the happiest moments of music making in our yearly calendar as we explore a beautiful country and revisit familiar places and audiences.
“As a national company the SCO takes pleasure and pride in visiting the length, breadth and width of Scotland, not only performing but receiving the friendship and enthusiasm of our audiences in places small and large.”
Newly-appointed principal conductor Maxim Emelyanychev joins the Orchestra for the Stirling Castle concert in the Great Hall.
Stepping into the spotlight as concert soloists at the castle are the SCO clarinettists performing Mendelssohn’s Concert Piece in D minor.
Mr Bornet added: “The SCO is passionate about sharing the experience of exceptional live orchestral music-making and inspiring new generations of classical music lovers.
“The summer tour supports this mission by making concerts as accessible as possible to younger audiences by offering free tickets to under 18s and £6 tickets for under 26s, students and the unemployed.”
■ The SCO will also give a concert at Callander’s McLaren High School on Saturday, August 1. This concert will feature principal flute André Cebrián as soloist in Mozart’s Flute Concerto No 2.
