Park planners give go-ahead to Balquhidder holiday lodges
Plans for two holiday lodges on the edge of Balquhidder have been granted approval by national park planners.
Martin Mackenzie is proposing to develop a site at Springfield House, 6 Auchtubh on the south side of a single track road which accesses Balquhidder from the A84.
The two self-contained lodges would be for holiday use only, each measuring around 11 metres by five metres with a double and a single bedroom, a lounge area with wood burning stove and small kitchen with seating area. They would also have an entrance boot store and external bike store.
One neighbour had raised concerns about road safety at the access and private right of access to the application site.
In their decision, however, park planners said: “Private access arrangements however are a civil matter and not one that the planning assessment can take into account.
“The potential for noise and disturbance has been considered. There is good separation from the lodges and the neighbouring properties.
“The applicant’s statement confirms there will generally be a presence on site (in the main house) to manage visitors appropriately, however the clientele the lodges are likely to attract at (generally couples possibly with young families) and the fact there are only six bed spaces in total will naturally limit the potential for disturbance.
“The lodges would provide smallscale tourist accommodation in an appropriate location.”
