Youngsters enjoy BB at Home fun

-

Boys’ Brigade groups around Stirling continue to find new and creative ways to connect with and engage their young people during lockdown.

In the last few weeks, interest has continued to grow in the rapidlydeveloped BB at Home programme activities and groups are meeting securely and safely online.

Not only that, but BB groups are providing entertainment for parents and supporters as well.

Each week, a new set of six activities for boys in each of the age groups – Anchor Boys (P1-3), Junior Section (P4-P6) and Company Section (P7S6) – is published and distributed to the boys by their leaders. Recent challenges have included cereal-box aquariums, cooking meals for parents and fitness dice workouts.

In addition to the weekly challenges, Boys’ Brigade UK has been running a series of competitions. Results will shortly be announced for the ‘BB’s Got Talent’ competition and boys are currently taking part in a huge art competition as well as the Great BB Bake-Off.

Captain of 8th Stirling (St Ninians) BB Robbie Forsyth said, “It’s been amazing to see so many of the boys enjoying the BB at Home activities and keeping the spirit of BB going during this tough time.

“Seeing the whole family get involved, especially through our Friday night quizzes on Facebook live, has been super and the response has been brilliant.”

The BB at Home material is published every Friday on the Boys’ Brigade UK website and the activities are open to everyone. Brothers and sisters of BB members have been getting involved and some local schools are sharing the material to give pupils’ activities that will complement their learning from school.

Young people are encouraged to share their BB at Home achievements with their schools, too.

In Dunblane, BB members are equally enjoying the fun and activities involving cooking and science are proving particularly popular. Captain at 25th Stirling (Dunblane), Fraser Boyd said: “The boys are certainly making the most of being in the kitchen but cooking outdoors has been popular, too, and we’re sure there will be lots of entries into the BB Bake-Off.

“We’ve also been able to run some of the art activities during our weekly Zoom meetings for each age group.”

He added: “It is inspiring to see how the boys are showing such commitment to the BB and earning their awards even when they can’t meet in person.”
