Ex soldier Jen returns to army for coronavirus fight
An Active Stirling physical activity consultant has returned to the Army to assist with coronavirus support.
Jen McNesfield, who has served on two operational tours in Afghanistan, is providing planning and logistic advice to the Scottish Ambulance Service as a Military Liaison Officer.
The 31-year-old had been part of the Macmillan Move More programme in Stirling which provided face-to-face activity classes for cancer patients.
However since the classes were forced to stop due to the pandemic Jen volunteered for redeployment back to the Army as part of the military’s COVID support.
She said:“Although this is very different from my usual job with the Macmillan Move More programme working with those living with cancer, a lot of my skills have been transferrable.
“My coaching and communication skills in particular have been really useful for this deployment.
“I love my day job and I’m looking forward to getting back to it, I really miss my clients.
“However, this has been a fantastic opportunity to learn about how the civil authorities work in response to a crisis.
“I’ve seen first-hand the staff of the NHS deliver an incredible service. They have been truly brave and selfless during the crisis and I’m so grateful for everything they do.”
Jen will continue to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service for as long as support is required.
Active Stirling’s Director of Delivery, Matt Bunnell said:“We are delighted to support Jen in her redeployment back into the military service.
“It’s inspirational to see the ceaseless hard work, coordination and expertise deployed by Jen, the wider armed forces and of course all key workers during this period of exceptional challenge.”
