Planners support 800 homes scheme

-

A £100 million development that would deliver up to 800 new homes on the edge of Bannockburn has been recommended for approval by Stirling Council planners.

The application by Persimmon Homes East Scotland and Tulloch Homes forms part of the South Stirling Gateway masterplan and takes in almost 40 acres of land.

Stirling Council’s planning panel will hold a virtual meeting on Tuesday to decide whether or not to back their planners’ recommendation.

The development at Brucefields Family Golf Centre and Corbiewood Equestrian Stadium in Bannockburn would feature homes ranging from one up to five bedrooms, a quarter of which would be affordable housing.

It would also deliver a new primary school, road improvements including the M9 Pirnhall junction, landscaped public spaces, footpaths and cycleways.

The developers say the remaining land also has several potential uses such as a park and ride facility, a driving range or other leisure facility and would “positively contribute to the local and wider Stirling economy” by generating an estimated £2 million in council tax revenue for Stirling Council.

They also suggest around 100 full-time construction jobs and as many indirect jobs per year could be created.

In their report council planners recommend more than 40 conditions be attached to any consent.

They said: “This proposal generally conforms to the details of the masterplan but there are some significant changes.

“Not only are new junction arrangements proposed at A872 Glasgow Road and A91 but this proposal does not include the upgrading of the existing Pirnhall Road. Instead it seeks to only utilise sections of Pirnhall Road, leaving the majority of it as a pedestrian and cycle way.

“A new road is proposed to the north of Pirnhall Road to serve the residential development within the site.”

Seven comments have been submitted, raising points including the importance of cycling and walking routes and access issues.

Persimmon Homes’ Iain Innes said: “South Stirling Gateway is a key strategic development for both

Persimmon Homes and Stirling Council.

“The development will boost the local economy, providing much-needed housing, both private sale and affordable.

“The development of a purpose-built new primary school and the creation of thousands of jobs can only be a positive for Stirling.”

Forth Valley Chamber of Commerce president Lynn Blaikie said: “We recognise that in times of economic uncertainty a renewed focus on inward investment is needed to ensure the continued growth of our local economy.

“We welcome any activity such as house building that will support the growth of the local economy.”
