Stories from a life of adventure
A former Stirlingshire top cop is preparing for the publication of his latest book.
Ian McNeish is looking forward to the release of ‘From Dumyat to Mont Blanc,’ an illustrated account of a life of outdoor adventure, on June 29.
With a career in policing spanning decades, including a stint in Stirling, he rose to the rank of chief inspector before retiring in 2004.
But in his latest book he relates his many larger-than-life treks through the wild, going off the beaten track for some truly memorable experiences.
The book is being published by Stirling-based Extremis Publishing, who also published Ian’s first book ‘The Fearn Bobby: Reflections from a Life in Scottish Policing’ in 2018.
A spokesperson said: “Born in Bonnybridge, Ian may have seemed an unlikely climbing enthusiast. The closest peak to his home was Cowden
Hill, which at an elevation of 55.4 metres is only the 14,650th highest in Britain.
“Whether cycling through the Outer Hebrides for charity or whitewater rafting in New Zealand, Ian is someone who has seen life.
“But nothing could have prepared him for facing the biggest climbing challenge of his career when he tackled the famous peak of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the
Alps with a summit 4808 metres above sea level.
“From his experiences in mountain rescue teams to two successful attempts at Scotland’s famous Ultimate Challenge, he relates amazing stories of some of the most stunning places in the world and reveals what it means to truly be alive in the mountains.”
