Sunday salesget go-ahead

-

A farm near Callander looks set to hold Sunday car boot sales at some point.

Stirling Council planners have conditionally approved an application by Kirsty Buchanan to hold a car boot sale and site a snack van at Ballachallan Farm at Cambusmore on Sundays from 9am-4pm.

The site is a triangular shaped area of open ground next to farm buildings west of the A84 (Stirling-Callander trunk road) and accessed by a wide bellmouth which also serves an active quarry. The tarred road is said to be wide enough to allow for a two way flow of vehicles.

In their decision, the planners said: “The site is well screened from public views. There are no near residential neighbours whose amenity would be adversely impacted by the proposal.

“The site is not within a sustainable location however it is on a bus route and lies about a mile south of Callander. Furthermore, the use, by its very nature, will already generate a level of car vehicle trips and the number of vehicle trips will be limited - both by the extent of operation (Sunday only between 9am and 4pm) and the extent of site area (limiting the level of parking available for those visiting the site).’’

The planners added that policies for economic development in the countryside sought to support a “healthy and vibrant rural economy” by encouraging rural economic activity to locate close to settlements.

“In this case, it is recognised that a car boot sale use is not a rural activity since it often takes place within urban areas, however, the proposal will bring a level of diversity to the economy.”
