‘Help us create Daily Mile Path’

-

Volunteers are being asked to go the extra‘Mile’for Strathblane Primary School.

Strathblane Primary and Nursery Fundraisers are looking for help to create the school’s Daily Mile Path from the end of this month.

Elaine Wyllie founded the Daily Mile in 2012 when she was headteacher at St Ninians Primary School. She came up with the idea of getting children out of the classroom for 15 minutes every day to walk or jog at their own pace.

The initiative has now spread to more than 6600 schools in 55 countries and Elaine was awarded an MBE for services to the fitness of children in the New Year’s Honours List.

Strathblane Primary School and Nursery has been fundraising to raise money for the materials to create their own Daily Mile route and have also received a donation of almost £1200 from the Co-op as well as submitted grant applications towards their goal.

Now volunteers are being asked to sign up for one of the slots to take part in its construction.

A spokesperson posted: “Strathblane Primary School Grounds Group needs volunteers to complete its biggest project to date, the Daily Mile Path. This is the culmination of much planning and fundraising, and will be a fantastic addition to the school when the kids finally return.

“The project is taking place from Friday July 31 to Tuesday August 4 and volunteers are needed to commit to shifts of four hours. The work will largely involve spreading stone before it is compacted by machinery.

“Unfortunately children will not be allowed in the playground at all during this time by agreement with the school and Stirling Council because of the heavy machinery being used.”

Anyone willing to help is being asked to complete an online form at https://docs. google.com/… /1FAIpQLSfB5pQ39JmbwQi60…/ viewform.

A maximum of six people are allowed on each shift to allow appropriate social distancing during the work and the form will only show available shifts.
