A 21-year-old Menstrie man was killed in a horror road smash near Callander this week.

Lewis McEwan died in the accident on the A84, between Doune and Buchany, shortly before 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Two other people remain in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Mr McEwan’s mother, Louise, took to social media to pay heartfelt tribute. She posted: “Can’t believe you are gone our baby boy. Our hearts are broken forever. Nobody will ever understand the love I had for you... my first born, my heart, my soul, my reason for living. SIMPLY THE BEST.”

Distraught pals also paid tribute to Rangers fan Lewis on social media.

It’s understood that Mr McEwan was alone in a dark grey Ford Fiesta travelling northbound towards Callander when his vehicle veered into the opposing carriageway

The vehicle then collided with a grey Peugeot 3008 travelling southbound.

Police are still trying to establish the cause of the accident.

The Peugeot was a rental car, being driven by two German nationals, a man and a woman both aged 24, who were on a trip from England. Lewis was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Ambulances rushed the German nationals to Forth Valley Royal Hospital suffering from a suspected shattered pelvis and a broken ankle but they remain in a stable condition.

The air ambulance was called in but was not needed.

Police closed the stretch of road between Buchany and Callander for around seven hours to allow for crash investigation work to be carried out.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Ruth Aitchison, from Stirling’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the man who sadly lost his life in this tragic incident.

“I am asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or either vehicle prior to the crash, to contact us if you have not already done so.

We are also asking locals and drivers to review their CCTV and dashcam footage for anything relevant that could assist with our investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact officers via 101, quoting reference number 2813 of July 22.
