Stirling Observer

A blatant insult to public

-

Dear Editor

What have we done to deserve what must undoubtedly be the worst-managed council in Scotland?

We have already told them that householders in Conservation Areas are obliged by law to keep their gardens ‘neat and tidy’, and by the same law Stirling Council is obliged to remove all garden waste - presumably in the council’s own bins. Why else have a Conservation Area at all? Is the council ashamed of its region?

The council’s new arrangements for not collecting bins - their “secret agenda” - was never discussed with the public, which is quite inexcusable.

Their answer (Stirling Observer, July 15) was that the public were notified “via the usual channels”.

What usual channels? Since the correspondence in the press clearly shows that nobody had advance warning, they had better be made to wake up and publish all proposals in advance in the main press, such as the Stirling Observer, in future, instead of on Facebook and other, obscure, juvenile internet sites. All community councils should also be notified in writing.

Not to do so is a blatant insult to the public.

After all, it is our money, not theirs, that they are frivolously playing about with.

Stirling Council’s environment convener is reported to have rubbished claims that a reduced bin service will inevitably increase fly-tipping. Such a remark is yet another disgraceful insult to the public, when it is a known fact, as any reputable council elsewhere in the UK can confirm from experience. The convener is clearly unfit for office.

Next, the council tries to justify closing Cornton Road, without any plans to alleviate the situation for local residents. They say that an alternative route is available “for those motorists that require it”. Of course they require it. Did nobody tell our stupid council that the government has ordered the public to avoid using public transport at this time, if at all possible, and use private transport. The alternative route suggested adds 3½ miles each way to their daily journey to work.

Do we not have a procurator fiscal to challenge failures of public duty? Bring back the stocks!
