Bullocks (201) averaged 227.29p to 252.80p per kg for a 360kg CHX from Polquhairn, and to £1430 for a 688kg Simx from Putechan.

Dairy bullocks (24) averaged 180.43p to 213.40p per kg for a 396kg MRIX from Caddell, and to £1010 for a 608kg MOX from Nethertown.

Heifers ( 220 averaged 217.22p to 247.20p per kg for a 441kg Limx from Gateside, and to £1210 for a 592kg CHX from Pardovan.

Beef cows and bulls (50) averaged 151.68p to 196.90p per kg for a AAX from Meikle Camoquhill, and to £1650 for a Lim from Over Finlarg.

UA sold 53 pedigree Poll Dorset and Dorset Horn sheep and their annual sale.

Topping the sale at 1100gns was a tremendous ram lamb, Mainview Chieftain from Mr and Mrs A Kennedy, Maineview, Ballymena, by the Ballytagga­rt After Shock stock ram and sold to Ms Baxter, Castlerodd­y Road, Omagh.

Following in the female line was an outstandin­g ewe lamb from the same home. Maineview C1161 by the homebred sire Maineview Armani, Selling at 700gns to Ms Moorhead, Lisnaght, Ballymoney,

Co Antrim.

Caley Marts sold 147 cattle comprising of 63 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, 61 OTM cattle and 24 calves and stirks. Many more could have been sold to sellers’ advantage.

Heifers averaged 591kg at 230p per kg; bullocks 629kg at 224p per kg; young bulls (under 30 months) 69kg at 189p per kg.

Prime heifers sold to 255p kg for a Limousin from FC Eccles, Bruckley, St Andrews, purchased by D Campbell and Son, Butchers, Callander and to £1632 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodl­ees, Canonbie, purchased by J Gilvear and Sons.

Prime bullocks sold to 258p kg for a Limousin from M Orr and Son, Penston, Macmerry, purchased by J Gilvear and Sons and to £1610 for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyre­s, Auchtermuc­hty, purchased by T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk.

Bulls (under 30 months) sold to 208p kg for a Limousin from JF and MB Teague, Buteland and to £1562 for a Limousin from W Dick and Son, Mains of Throsk, Stirling.

Top price stirk of the day was from H Galbraith, Polliwilli­ne, Southend for a tremendous Aberdeen Angus Bullock at £800. Top price calf was from J Gibson, Greenwall, Forth for a Simmental Bullock Calf at £520.

TUESDAY, JULY 21

Caley Marts sold 1256 spring lambs, ewes and tups at their weekly sale.

All classes of lamb followed the national trend being easier on the week, with 588kg averaging 207p, -14p otw (+40p on the year).

Top price of the day went to Doune Farms, West Lundie, Argaty for a 50kg Beltex lamb at £132 and to 265p for the same lamb.

Also forward were 667 cast ewes and rams with a large proportion of the ewes forward being feeding types, they were very much in demand. Topping the sale at £126 was a pen of Texels from DL Young, Finmont, Kinglassie.

Export ewes sold to £94 for Cheviots from WA Mackinnon, West Dron, Bridge of Earn. Cast tups sold to £141 for a Blue Faced Leicester from HW Ronald and Son, Gartfairn, Drymen.
