Save up your energy for next year runners
Organisers of the popular Balfron 10k are looking ahead to 2021 after being forced to cancel this year’s event due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions.
Having already postponed the April event, organisers had instead hoped to run the Mulberry Bush Montessori Balfron 10k in September.
But now the disappointed organisers have announced they’ve called off the 2020 event and instead have set a new date of Sunday, April 25, 2021. Spokesperson Julie Ross said:“this has been an extremely difficult decision but unfortunately as current government guidance does not give an indicative date of when mass participation events like ours will be permitted, we feel we have no other option but to cancel our 2020 event.
“After assessing all current available information it is our view that social distancing restrictions and current ban on mass gatherings are likely to extend into late summer and include September.
“Such a scenario will make it impossible to organise and deliver the community event that is the Mulberry Bush Montessori Balfron 10k.
“We know this will be disappointing for all of the runners looking forward to taking part in the 10k and we are extremely grateful for their continued support and understanding in what has been a challenging time.”
She added:“all of our 10k team are very disappointed at having to make this decision but the welfare of runners, volunteers, visitors and our community is paramount.’
“All entries for 2020 will be deferred to our new date in April 2021 but refunds will be offered to runners who can’t make it.’’
Julie continued:“we look forward to welcoming you back to the start line in 2021 but in the meantime, stay safe and keep running.’’
The Mulberry Bush Montessori Balfron 10k is the latest in a series of running events which have fallen victim to coronavirus restrictions this year including the Stirling Marathon and Stirling 10k.
