BRAEHEAD

Wednesday, July 29 saw 58 competitor­s play in the Claret Jug competitio­n for seniors at Braehead in nice dry but challengin­g conditions. Congratula­tions go to Patrick Mcnamara who won the Claret Jug with a net 67 which included two magic twos during his round.

Division One (Scratch to 17 handicap) - 1 Patrick Mcnamara 80 (13) 67; 2 Stuart Matchett 76 (8) 68; 3 Jim Watt 84 (14) 70. Division Two (18 and over) - 1 Hugh Dan Maclennan 87 (19) 68; 2 Kevin Shelfer 96 (27) 69; 3 Tom Todd 89 (19) 70.

BRIDGE OF ALLAN

With the course looking exceptiona­l scoring also proved to be good.

Alasdair Breingan’s fine 22 point score winning the Senior Gents Nine Hole Stableford on Friday. Ronald Mcmurray took second place just one point behind on 21 with Phil Howarth taking third place with 19 points. Jim Black is still leading the way in the Senior Gents Order of Merit with 30 points and Gordon Darlington retains the lead in the Senior Gents Eclectic with 26 points.

On Saturday scoring was also very impressive and with a net 62 Douglas Gebbie got back to winning ways just pipping Willie Fernie on a countback. Third place on a countback went to Brian Park who returned a net 64.

Best scratch score of the day was returned by club champion Kyle Mcclung whose gross 65 was made up of 12 fours, five threes and a two. New leader of the Saturday Eclectic is Phil Wallom with a score of net 48. In Sunday’s White Tee Nine Hole Stableford, Andrew Stuart won with 18 points.

DUNBLANE NEW

The Monthly Medal, Old Club Trophy Qualifying second round and the second round of the Handicap Stroke Play Championsh­ip saw some remarkable scoring on Saturday with the CSS reducing to 68 for the first time in a long time.

Best Scratch score was a two under par 67 from Joe Patton with 16 pars and birdies at 5 and 16.

First Class saw three players return 66 but first place went to Graham Hally (11) with BIH than Gary Wilson (11) who had BIH than Colin Graham (8). Five players then returned 67 but fourth place went to course manager Wes Saunders (4) on BL6 than Norman Gater (6).

With the best score of the weekend and for some time, Ben Clark (13) won Second Class on 60 - nine under par. Ben had 10 pars with birdies at 15 and 18 with six bogeys. Runner up was Alan Lee (14) with BIH than Robert Mackellar (12) who had BIH than Finlay Mason (14).

In Third Class the winner was Lloyd Hardman (17) on 64 and BIH than John Cleghorn (19). Third spot went to Joe Mcgee (18) on 65 with Paul Lewis (17) fourth on 66.

There was another good field for the Yellow Tee Stableford on Wednesday, July 29. First Class winner on 41 points was Rocco Purves (5) with BL6 including a birdie at 18, than John Brailsford (11). Third place went to John Carr (10) on 40 points and Gordon Pringle (6) edged fourth place on 39 points and BIH than Graham Hally (11).

Just back after a break from golf, Derek Blues (14) won the Second Class on 43 points including birdies at 4 and 7. Runner up was John Currie (13) on 42 points, third place went to Stewart Taylor (13) on 41 points. Four players then returned 40 points but fourth place went to Mark Hay (15) with BIH.

In the Third Class Steven Macalliste­r (18) returned a remarkable 47 points including birdies at 4, 15 and 17. Runner up was Alan Crockett (18) on 41 points and BIH than Wallace Clarke (18) who had BIH than Ian Lewis (18).

On Wednesday the Rae Haxton Trophy for the “Vet” with the best score on the day went to John Currie (13) with his 42 points.

Today (Wednesday) is the Monthly White Tee Medal and at the weekend, the qualifying rounds for the Club Championsh­ip and the Kirkland Trophy (Handicap Championsh­ip) will be played. The successful qualifiers will then compete in the match play ties during the following week with the finals to be held on Saturday,august 15.

DUNBLANE NEW LADIES

Young Cup first round: Irene Higgins won Division 1 going out in 44 coming back in 44 with one birdie and four pars to beat Cecilia Kenny by one shot. Elspeth Kent won Division 2 going out in 46 coming back in 46 with three pars, beating Liz Macgregor by five shots.

Results: Division 1 - 1 Lorna Brown 67; 2 Irene Higgins 73; 3 Cecilia Kenny 74. Division 2 - 1 Elspeth Kent 64; 2 Liz Macgregor 69; 3 Jan Higgins 71.

Young Cup second round and medal: Claire Capocci won Division 1 going out in 39 coming back in 39 with one birdie and nine pars beating Lorna Brown by three shots. Melanie Dunsmore won Division 2 going out in 51 coming back in 50 with one par beating Linda Birrell by six shots.
