Two Cowie shops are to be merged into one
Two shops in Cowie are set to be turned into one.
Stirling Council planners have granted conditional approval of plans by Salman Tariq to merge 33A and 33B Scotstoun Road in the village.
The first property is already running as a licensed grocers whilst the most recent used of the adjoining 33B unit is also as a shop, with the buildings on a corner plot of a residential area.
In their assessment, council planners said: “The existing entrance door to 33B will be bricked up and a new ATM with be installed with the render finish to match existing. A new ramped access will be formed leading from the existing entrance to 33A. In addition, a rear extension is proposed in order to create a secure storage area with rear service door.
“The proposal is considered to complement and connect with its surroundings and will be in keeping with the existing character and appearance of the site. Although the network centre is the preferred location for convenience retail, the Class 1 use is already established at the site and the proposal seeks to improve and extend the existing use.
“The design and materials of the proposed extension will be in keeping with the existing building and will not have a detrimental impact on the character or appearance of the wider residential area. The extension will not result in a loss of daylight to the neighbouring residential property since the ground floor window of 1 Park Street has opaque glazing.
“A condition has been applied to regulate the noise from the proposed refrigeration compressors which are to be mounted on the flat roof. This is to protect the amenity of housing in the locality from noise disturbance.”
