Stirling boss Kevin Rutkiewicz said a share of the spoils suited both teams.

The Binos gaffer, whose first game in charge was two years ago yesterday (Tuesday) in a 1-0 defeat to Edinburgh City, said afterwards: “I think over the 90 minutes it was a fair result against Stenhousemuir. I’m delighted to get something with the late goal but I feel we were deserving of the point.

“Both teams had parts of the game where they were on top. I don’t think it was a case of anything going wrong as such in the second half – you don’t dominate games for 90 minutes. I think Stenhousemuir got some momentum and we made some crucial errors, even with simple things like clearing our lines.

“That brought an anxiety and it was evident that we were getting deeper – we couldn’t get up the park as much as we did, even with the wind behind us. Stenny didn’t really change anything tactically but in the second half their middle two of Callum Tapping and Ryan Blair got a grip of the game whereas we won the first half in there.”

He added: “I didn’t think they had a lot of chances – Cammy Binnie had one great save from David Hopkirk and that should have been a warning but I felt we got dragged into a bit of a battle in the second half and it didn’t really suit us.

“I had no complaints about the penalty decision – I thought Scott Roberts had a good game and kept one of the best wingers in the division in David Hopkirk very quiet. He gave away the penalty with the tackle on Greig Spence but that’s just one of these things.
