Plea to think of elderly this Christmas

-

A care provider last week delivered Christmas meals to elderly residents in Stirling in a bid to spread some festive cheer.

CERA Care is urging people to think about older neighbours in local communities as we head into the depths of winter.

Members of the community have been making special Christmas cards this year to bring a bit of cheer to those who may be self-isolating or limited in social activities.

The firm has also been delivering Christmas meals to more vulnerable service users as a gift to them, in place of the usual Christmas party.

Meals were handed out last Thursday in time for the festive celebrations.

Manager Carole Gillies said:“if you have an older friend or neighbour, can you help ensure they are keeping warm, having regular meals and hot drinks, and moving about to keep fit and healthy, body and mind, bearing in mind social distancing guidelines for our area, bearing in mind all the restrictions in our local area.”

A number of local businesses have contribued to make the meal gift a possibility.

Ms Gillies added:“our team of care workers work diligently all year round ensuring safe and happy lives for older and less able people living independently in their own homes. I want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of these members of my team who have gone above and beyond to ensure everyone’s health and safety in this year of crisis.

“At this time of year, we would encourage everyone to look out for neighbours and those less able, who may be living alone. Ensure they have enough food supplies if getting out becomes more difficult with bad winter weather. Could you help with delivering some food shopping? Staying connected with other people is also very important for all of us. Many would appreciate a bit of extra help or a bit of company. Where we can’t do that with current restrictions, but sending a note, a greetings card or picking up the phone to someone just to say hello can make a massive difference.

“Community support is even more important in our Scottish winters. It gets so dark so early, sundown at 3.30pm in December, which can be even more gloomy for many. This year we have found other ways to connect with those we care for and bring a smile to those who may live alone.”
