Almost 45 per cent of the adult population in Forth Valley has now received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Public Health Scotland statistics have revealed that 113.246 people have been given their first jag - making up 44.6 per cent of those registered in the region.

Meanwhile, the percentage of the Forth Valley population who have been given their crucial second dose has also reached three per cent, with 7,712 people being vaccinated.

That represents the second lowest total of second doses being administered across all of Scotland’s health board areas.

Only NHS Fife - which has only given second doses to 2.1 per cent of its eligible population - is lower than in Forth Valley.

Forth Valley fares slightly better on a national basis in first doses, with the Lothian, Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Grampian areas.

The latest vaccine data comes as Scotland broke through the milestone of two million people having received their first dose, with the landmark jag being given to Ian Love from Dunipace at Forth Valley College’s Stirling campus.

Health Secretary Jeane Freeman praised NHS vaccination teams for reaching the two million mark.

Ms Freeman said:“I would like to thank everyone who is working tirelessly to make this a success, and also every individual who has taken up their offer of a vaccine.

“Scotland’s Covid-19 vaccination programme is now in the final stages of vaccinating the first nine priority groups.

“When you are offered the vaccine, please take up the invitation.”
