CALEDONIAN MARTS THURSDAY, MARCH 11

Caley Marts sold 125 cattle comprising of 61 bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 64 OTM cattle.

Heifers averaged a whopping 246p per kg with an average weight of 608kg. Leading the way was an outstandin­g British Blue from M Orr and Sons, Penston, Macmerry at 360p per kg or £2196 per head.

Bullocks averaged 226p per kg with an average weight of 682kg. Bullocks topped at 252p per kg for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, purchased by T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk and to an outstandin­g £1810 for a 790kg British Blue from A Kennedy, Seggarsdea­n, Haddington purchased by C Kirkpatric­k, Lockerbie.

Other leading prices: Bullocks per head - £1765 Croftgary; £1664 Bankhead; £1656 Croftgary. Bullocks per kg - 250p Nethermyre­s and Learielaw; 248p and 242p Penston; 238p Blairgorts.

Heifers per head - £1742 Rathillet; £1632 West Thomaston; £1565 Nethermyre­s. Heifers per kg 260p Nethermyre­s; 255p Faskine and Learielaw; 252p Learielaw.

Also forward were 64 OTM cattle with a mixed show of all classes of OTMs.

The overall average for the 38 Beef OTMs was a staggering 156p per kg or £1082 with 26 dairy cows levelling at 123p or £780 per head.

Beef OTMs sold to £1370 for a Saler from GR Aitken, Traprain, Haddington and 177p for a Limousin from J Brownlie and Co, Inchgall, Fife. Dairy cows sold to 161p again from Traprain and to £1190 for the same beast.

MONDAY, MARCH 15

Caley Marts sold 459 store hoggets, ewes and breeding sheep at their fortnightl­y sale.

Top price of the day went to James Park, Lochgreen, Troon for a Texel ewe with twin lambs at foot at £192.

Top price grit ewes went to W and MF More, Castle Rednock, Port of Menteith for a pen of BF Gimmers in lamb to the BF Tup at £118.

Top price store hoggets went to Bonsor Estates, Ballinluig for a pen of 32kg Texels at £102.

TUESDAY, MARCH 16

Caley Marts had forward 1378 prime hoggs, ewes and tups at their weekly prime stock sale.

All classes would be sharper on the week with a larger demand for heavier well fleshed hoggs. Overall average levelled at 285p with an SQQ of 289p and a pounds per head average of £127.91.

A top price of £160 per head was achieved on two occasions. Firstly, from Doune Farms, West Lundie for a Beltex and secondly from D Higginson, Braeleny for a Texel.

The pence per kg topped at 338p for a pen of Texels from WM Bell and Sons, Craigend, Perth.

Also forward were 619 cast ewes and rams. All classes would be dearer on the week and more could be easily sold to sellers’ advantage.

Heavy ewes averaged £114.26 selling to £155 for a thumping Berrichon Du Cher ewe from Iain Johnston, Kirkton, Falkirk. Export ewes averaged £78.09 selling to £111 for Cheviots from D Bell, Kincraigie, Strathmigl­o. Cast rams averaged £102.12 selling to £167 for a thumping Berrichon Du Cher from Iain Johnston.

Bullocks (787) averaged 248.83p to 318.20p per kg for a 198kg LimX from Gibblaston, and to £1520 for a 646kg LimX from Gartness. Dairy bullocks (71) averaged 200.44p to 274.80p per kg for a 242kg HFX from Polwhilly, and to £1100 for a 509kg MOX from Meikle Camoquhill.

Heifers (685) averaged 244.60p to 312.50p per kg for a 304kg LimX from Dyke, and to £1440 for a 544kg SimX from Gladhouse Mains. Young bulls (29) averaged 229.16p to 278.50p per kg for a AAX from Cabbage Hall, and to £1090 for a AAX from Mosshall. Beef cows and bulls (99) averaged 156.50p to 192.20p per kg for a LimX from Abbeymill, and to £1710 for a CHX from Carwood.
