Clubs welcome gift of big lottery award
Two Stirling sports clubs have been handed a welcome cash boost thanks to grant funding from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland.
Forth Valley Fencing Club received £8916 and Forth Valley Orienteers £6000 thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund in partnership with sportscotland.
The funding comes from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland – a quick and simple way to access small National Lottery grants of between £300 and £10,000.
The fencing club will use the funds to convert a vacant commercial unit in Springkerse Industrial Estate and turn it into a dedicated fencing salle while Forth Valley Orienteers will update existing and produce new orienteering maps, establish new permanent courses and engage a development worker.
The grants have been made possible thanks to National Lottery players, who raise £30 million each week for good causes across the UK.
Forth Valley Fencing trustee Gregor MacCallum said: “We are delighted to receive financial support from National
Lottery. Without the funding this would just not have been possible especially in such a difficult time.
“We have been reliant upon council run facilities and with Covid restrictions these have not been available to us. It is vital funding to allow us to realise our dream of having a dedicated fencing salle for the people of Forth Valley and to continue the long heritage of fencing in the area.”
The National Lottery Community Fund’s Scotland Chair, Kate Still, said: “It’s great to see such a variety of projects being funded to help people as they continue to be affected by the pandemic.
“We know that even a small amount of money can really help to change lives and, as a funder, our priority is to ensure that National Lottery money continues to flow to charities, voluntary sector organisations and grassroot groups across Scotland.”
National Lottery Awards for All Scotland is now more straightforward to apply to and faster to get funding from. Applications are received on a rolling basis and can be received at any time.
