Reverend’s all kilted up for walk challenge
A West Stirlingshire minister is training for next month’s virtual Kiltwalk by walking around her two linked parishes.
Rev Ellen Larson Davidson – minister at Kippen Church and Norriston Church in Thornhill – is taking part in the event to raise cash for Christian Aid.
Kiltwalk gives people the opportunity to get active in their area while raising funds for their chosen charity with The Hunter Foundation topping up the fundraising by 50 per cent.
Ellen said:“For small communities like Kippen and Thornhill the last year has challenged everyone in many ways. I took part last September and I’ve just signed up again to take part in the April Kiltwalk. What it forces me to do, is get outside and walk – and I love bumping into people I’ve hardly seen this year. As part of my training I’m going to be walking around Kippen and Thornhill. There are so many beautiful walks on my doorstep and in the parishes that I serve. And my children Sophia and Fraser are taking part too,”
As a Christian Aid supporter Ellen will be raising money for those worst hit by climate change.
The climate emergency means the most vulnerable are walking further and further to escape drought, famine and flooding.
Head of Christian Aid Scotland Sally Foster-Fulton said:“Can you imagine having to walk for six hours every day to find clean water for your family?
“Here in Scotland that’s unthinkable, but it is the daily reality in countries like Kenya and Ethiopia.
“So to everyone taking part in the virtual Kiltwalk, for Christian Aid, I would say please think of your local and global neighbours while you walk. And thank you Ellen for taking part.”
