Campaigner Paul to fight seat for SNP

-

Football campaigner Paul Goodwin has been announced as the SNP candidate for the upcoming Forth and Endrick by-election.

The poll, which is being held following the sudden death of SNP councillor Graham Lambie, is due to take place on May 6 - on the same day at the country votes in Scottish Parliament elections.

Mr Goodwin, who has lived in Kippen with his family for the past 16 years, is known locally for his involvement in the campaign to bring Stirling Albion into community ownership in 2011.

He is also currently the CEO of the Scottish Football Supporters Association, a national fans body which aims to give supporters a say on the running of the game in Scotland.

Announcing his candidacy, Mr Goodwin said:“I was really saddened to hear about the passing of Graham Lambie who worked really hard for the communities he served.

“I was privileged to see how determined and committed you needed to be to serve the area you represent. I do hope that I can use my business experience as well as my wider empathy for communities to good effect, in a way that best serves all the people in our area.

“It is an honour to take on the challenge for the SNP to ensure that the hard work done over the years in Forth and Endrick is continued.

“I promise to work tirelessly to help those constituents who need support as we emerge from these difficult times.”

Mr Goodwin is the second candidate to formally put their hat in the ring for the election, with Kippen mum-of-two Jane Hutchison selected to contest the by-election for the Conservatives.
