Good news for fitness fanatics

-

Gyms in Stirling are gearing up to re-open to fitness fanatics on Monday after being forced to close by coronvirus restrictions.

Gym owners will welcome clients back through the doors on Monday, April 26, when Scotland moves to a ‘modified2 version of Level 3 Covid restrictions.

Among those to re-open will be The Peak.

Active Stirling, who manage The Peak on behalf of Stirling Council, are preparing to restart gym, swim and climbing activities once more with a number of Covid-19 measures in place.

All activities will be on a pre booked basis as The Peak still won’t be a walk-in facility. Bookings open from 12pm on Monday 19 April.

Andrew Bain, Chief Executive at Active Stirling said:“As we move to restart activities and programmes, we’d like to thank customers for their patience and understanding during this time. As you can imagine, it takes considerable planning to start activities once more and make sure they are fully tested and certified by our Covid Officer before they restart. We aim to restart activities in line with government guidance, but we must also take each decision to do so carefully, to make sure that we can recover as much as possible financially from the damaging impacts that Covid-19 has had on our charity.”

Active Stirling has been involved in community asymptomatic Covid testing across the Forth Valley area, in partnership with Stirling Council and Clackmannanshire Council. The Active Stirling team are at a different venue each week to set up and run asymptomatic tests from Thursdays to Sundays.

Next month, The Peak will be used as the venue for the Scottish Parliament election and local by-election count, with the ice rink and the sports hall being used.

The election count usually takes place in the Albert Halls but due to Covid that has been deemed unsuitable and a larger, better ventilated venue was required.

The Peak will be closed on Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8, to allow the election count to take place.

Following the election count the ice rink and sports hall will then be prepped for opening. The sports hall will reopen from Monday, May 17, with indoor fitness classes set to return, along with adult outdoor contact sport. The ice rink will reopen from Monday, May 24.

Indoor group exercise will take place in the large sports hall at The Peak with physically distanced spaces as before and in a separate and isolated zone. Ice skating starts a week later, as it takes two weeks to build the ice from the date the area becomes available.
