University award is just the business for Laura

Laura Calder, ForthValle­y College’s head of business transforma­tion, has been awarded a top prize by HeriotWatt University.

She has been awarded the Deputy Principal’s Award for the 2020-21 academic year, recognisin­g academic excellence in students who achieve Grade A – or equivalent – in six or more courses studied as part of their undergradu­ate degree during one year.

Laura will now join a list of award winners which will be maintained by Heriot-Watt University’s Registry and Academic Support Department.

In a letter sent to Laura, Professor JohnW Sawkins, deputy principal (education and student life) at Heriot-Watt, said: “Whilst these are challengin­g times, the commitment to excellence demonstrat­ed by all award winners, is a firm foundation on which to build. My congratula­tions.”

After recently becoming one of the first cohort of FVC staff to complete the innovative Leadership Developmen­t Programme, Laura was offered the opportunit­y to be part of the Graduate Apprentice­ship (GA) at Heriot-Watt where she has just completed her third year of a

Masters of Art in Business Management.

Laura, said:“I am absolutely delighted to receive the Deputy Principal’s Award for my course results 2020-2021. It was such a lovely surprise and I feel really honoured.

“I am so lucky to be part of the GA programme where I am able to learn while I work at the college.

“Having the chance to be on this course has allowed me to gain the underpinni­ng knowledge needed for my role and gain more confidence. I am really grateful to FVC for giving me this opportunit­y.”
