ST MARY’S BUSINESS FORUM

On Tuesday, October 14 at 7pm there will be a first meeting of St Mary’s Business Forum since the lockdown. This is a networking group for Strathard’s business community, and for those thinking of starting their own business. Refreshmen­ts will be served, and a small contributi­on (£2) is requested to cover the cost of these. There will be no guest speaker on this occasion but the topic under discussion will be “Impediment­s to starting or running a Business in Strathard”. This is in advance of a STEP video meeting the following Thursday.

On Sunday, Rev Ken Russell will celebrate Communion. At this service donation envelopes will be available for members to contribute to the Church of Scotland National Giving Day to boost the funds of your local church. Level 0 - masks have still to be worn unless exempt for medical reasons and the congregati­on will be allowed to sing. Harvest Thanksgivi­ng Service will take place on October 3 when donations of toiletries, tinned and packed foods for the GATE charity would be appreciate­d. WI NEWS

On Tuesday, September 14, members held an open meeting in the village hall, the first in more than 18 months. They were warmly welcomed by President Anne Stewart and it was good to see many known faces and several new ones too. Changes in the committee were discussed and the syllabus for the session was shared. This was followed by tea/coffee and cakes with thanks to the Coffee Kiln and a logo competitio­n. Next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 12 when local physiother­apist Kirsty Waters will talk about physio led Pilates.

CHURCH

All are welcome to Sunday’s service at 11.30am. The revised guidelines mean that there is now plenty of room for everyone who wishes to attend and it is no longer necessary to reserve a seat in advance. Face coverings are still required and social distancing is still in place, but we’re back to singing! During the summer months services are not being recorded and available on line. SENIOR CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATIO­N

It was great to finally be able to gather together in the village hall this week albeit taking Covid precaution­s, and it was lovely to welcome four new members. There was a brief AGM (postponed from April 2020) followed by a sing-a-long of 60s songs and a lovely afternoon tea provided by the committee. As one member said: “It was the first time I’ve felt like I got a bit of normality back.” Agnes McQueen stepped down from the committee after many years of loyal service for which all thank her enormously and hope she gets home from hospital soon. The remainder of the office nearers and committee were re-elected unchanged. Next meeting is on Tuesday, October 19 with David Sturgeon, a singer and pianist with a wide repertoire of songs old and new.

STRATHENDR­ICK STITCHERS

The group - formerly the Strathendr­ick Branch of the Embroidere­rs’ Guild - will resume later this month in Killearn Kirk Hall and meets on the third Tuesday of the month between September and May from 10am to 2pm. The meeting will be Covid-compliant so attendees should ‘Bring Your Own Banquet’ - lunch, a mug, cutlery and crockery. Tea and coffee will be available throughout the meeting. The Strathendr­ick Stitchers also has a youth outreach programme for children aged eight-15 and meets normally on two Thursdays after school and one Saturday morning a month in two of the local libraries. Fabric Fun hopes to be up and running once groups are allowed at the venues. KILLEARN KIRK

Service on Sunday is at 10.30am with a short time for private prayer at 9.45am. Prayer time for everyone is at 10am on

Wednesday when you can come and go to suit your own availabili­ty. On Sunday afternoon “The 4” continues with fun and singing for the younger element. KIPPEN CHURCH

On Sunday, September 26 at 11.15am there will be a service in Kippen Church. It will be necessary to wear a mask during the service, to use hand sanitiser on entry and exit and to leave contact details. In accordance with Church of Scotland advice, in the meantime the church will be closed and alarmed every day, including weekends.
