GOLF BRIDGE OF ALLAN

It was a family affair last weekend when father and son Raymond and Raymond T Aimer won all competitions played.

On Friday, dad Raymond won the Senior Gents Nine Hole Stableford with his 20 point total, just beating Bob Buchanan on a countback. Third place went to Alastair Redpath with 18 points. Yet again there were no twos so this week’s pot is now a seven week rollover.

With one week to go in the summer season, Jimmy McKenzie is two points ahead of Keith Pyper in the Seniors Order of Merit and Bob Buchanan leads the Senior Eclectic with 31 points, just one ahead of Jim Gore and Alan Hadden.

On Saturday, Raymond T Aimer took over the winner’s circle from dad the previous day with a Stableford score of 44 points. Taylor Park was second with 40 points and Liam Grimmer third with 39 points.

Three Saturday twos were returned with Raymond Aimer, Roberto Zanelli and Robert Birrell sharing the spoils.

WHEELCHAIR CURLING

Two local wheelchair curlers are in China at the Kuntai World Wheelchair Curling Championships at The Ice Cube in Beijing this week.

Tullibody’s Meggan Dawson-Farrell made her debut in the opening match against Norway while Bridge of Allan’s Charlotte McKenna is alternate - a role the Wee County curler performed at last year’s Worlds.

The championships will double as a test event since it will feature 12 teams competing in a format that mirrors the one that has been put in place for next year’s Paralympics at the same venue.

ParalympicsGB is guaranteed representation thanks to the points already accrued by Scotland teams at the last two World Championships.

The PEAK-based team of skip Hugh Nibloe, Gregor Ewan, David Melrose, Dawson-Farrell and McKenna are representing Scotland with DawsonFarrell looking to add to an impressive sporting CV that saw her represent the nation as a wheelchair athlete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, before she decided to switch sports.

“I could not be prouder and it could not be more exciting than to have this opportunity and I hope to make the very most of this experience in the hope I will be back here in a few months’ time,” said Meggan.

The Scots have won four of their opening six matches with wins against Norway (6-4), Italy (11-7), Canada (7-4) and Switzerland (11-7) and losses against Korea (8-6) and Sweden (9-2)
